Film production and release business is not a child's game and this has enhanced or even destroyed the fortunes of many over the decades in many film industries across India. Tollywood is no exception and here release business is not a small thing. It involves many understandings, big finances, and a lot more lobbying etc., which is only the home turf of a select few.
In the Telugu film industry, there is an open talk about the big four people who control the film business and many times, there is a lot of criticism that they completely dominate the trade leaving small producers with no choice to plan their releases. The big four also includes Suresh Babu and Allu Arvind. Both of them have been on record recently where they stated that it is not fair to blame them that they are having an iron hold on the industry releases.
According to them, they have invested crores in ensuring that many traditional theaters don't get shut down due to losses and remodeled them with a lot of investments and planning to become fully functional theatres. Hence, it makes sense for them to control those theatres and manage the releases properly. However, many small and medium range film producers continue to say that because of these four, their movies don't get proper theatres and many films have ended up as flops or have only done average business due to this issue.
Now for the first time after many years Mythri Movie Makers is reportedly entering this distribution and theatres business. The banner is on cloud nine with two hits with super stars like Chiru and Balayya. They are maintaining a very impressive track record and now they seem to be cautious about availability of theatres due to their big expansion plans in the industry. Therefore, Mythri is also entering this part of the film trade to have their own club of theatres that can help them immensely for their home banner productions. The big question is will Mythri be able to withstand the pressure and challenges that comes from the leading names who are already dominating this business, and become successful here too.
