The government of India has reportedly re-introduced random testing for international passengers at all the airports in the country. This decision comes amid a sudden and serious spurt once again in COVID cases in China and other countries like Brazil, US and South Korea.
India has detected a few cases of Omicron subvariant BF.7, the same strain responsible for fresh spurt in Covid cases in China. Following a review meeting by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, it has been announced that random sample testing would be taken up for international air passengers arriving from abroad destinations, including China.
The government of India has also instructed people to follow covid appropriate behaviour like masks and social distancing as a preventive measure. At a time when the demand for travel has increased for the first time after covid, with record bookings from North America to India for the Christmas and New Year holiday season, the latest news is being viewed with growing skepticism and fear by NRIs. After three years, many are visiting their friends and family in India.
