According to media reports, 349 cases are related to the XBB.1.16 variant. The first cases of this XBB.1.16 variant in the country were reported in January. In February, it was reportedly found in 140 samples. In March, it was detected in 207 cases. This variant has now been identified in 349 samples of nine states and Union Territories.
It is said that most cases of this variant have come out in Maharashtra, followed by cases in Telangana, Karnataka and Gujarat. As the virus mutates, such new variants will continue to emerge. After about 140 days (more than four and a half months), the number of daily cases in the country has increased to 1300. Anyway, whenever there is news of a new variant emerging, it's time to be cautious and follow covid appropriate behaviour.
