Microsoft has announced that it is adding its new AI system, called Copilot, to its popular work software, Microsoft 365. Copilot is based on the same language-learning model as ChatGPT, the world-renowned AI system known for its ability to quickly provide human-like responses to complex or abstract questions.

Copilot will be embedded in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and will offer features such as summarizing meeting discussions, creating PowerPoint presentations, drafting emails, analyzing long email threads and documents, and creating data summaries and graphs.

Although Copilot is not simply ChatGPT itself, it uses the same technology and may sometimes make mistakes or provide inaccurate information. Microsoft acknowledged that Copilot may also sometimes be "usefully wrong". The company stated that Copilot will help people focus on the 20% of their work that really matters, by lightening the load of mundane tasks that take up 80% of their time.

Microsoft has not yet revealed when Copilot will be available. Meanwhile, OpenAI has launched GPT4, an updated version of the model that powers ChatGPT. OpenAI stated that GPT4 has "more advanced reasoning skills" than ChatGPT, but warned that it may still be prone to sharing disinformation. Other companies, such as Google, Meta, and Baidu, have also launched their own chatbot AI systems.
