The government of the United States has made significant changes in their processing of work authorization for certain international students. According to a recent announcement by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), select F-1 students are now eligible for premium processing services.

Students who are pursuing Optional Practical Training (OPT) and those who are in the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) who have submitted a Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, can request an upgrade to premium processing. USCIS has also made the online filing of Form I-907, Request for Premium Processing Service, available for F-1 students who are categorized under these criteria.

For students who prefer paper filing, the latest version of this form is still being accepted by USCIS. This premium processing service will commence on March 6, as stated in the media release. However, for other categories, it will begin on April 3. The expansion of premium processing is part of USCIS' initiative to improve efficiency and reduce the overall burden in the immigration system.
