India is currently experiencing a surge in fever and flu cases. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has identified the Influenza A subtype H3N2 virus as the primary cause for this outbreak. Compared to other subtypes, the H3N2 virus is known to cause more hospitalizations. Medical experts have reported that the virus has been spreading widely across the country for the past two to three months.

Typically, the symptoms of this flu include a persistent cough and fever. However, in recent cases, patients have complained of prolonged symptoms. Medical experts have warned that the H3N2 virus can lead to more hospitalizations compared to other subtypes. While a clinical trial specialist noted that the new strain of influenza is not life-threatening, some patients still required hospitalization due to respiratory issues. Although some of the symptoms may resemble Covid-19, all patients have tested negative for the virus.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has advised against the misuse of antibiotics due to the rising cases of cough, cold, and nausea across the country.
