McKinsey & Company, a global strategy consulting firm, is reportedly planning a downsizing exercise that could affect some of its employees based in India. The reductions are expected to target non-client-facing roles, as the firm looks to create a leaner model to support client-serving consultants.

McKinsey has already sent emails to some of its Indian employees whose positions are under review, but there is no clarity yet on the number of employees to be affected. McKinsey has a significant non-client-facing presence in India with hundreds of employees, but sources within the firm suggest that the impact on Indian employees will be limited.

McKinsey has been experiencing impressive revenue growth over the last two years due to increased demand for consulting services. However, the need to cut people could be due to the hefty payout of nearly $600 million that the company had to make last year in the US for settling investigations into its role at Purdue Pharma, among other factors.
