The massive earthquake that shook Syria and South East Turkey strongly with a magnitude of 7.4 on the Richter scale is a grim reminder of how nature strikes mankind and we become totally helpless. Similar scenes are now being witnessed across the region where thousands have perished and thousands are still trapped in the rubble with time ticking down, in efforts to save them.

The earthquake destroyed cities and towns with thousands of homes and apartment blocks disappearing from the landscape and falling like a pack of cards. The images coming from the devastated area are shocking and eye witnesses have described this as an apocalypse when the earth shook for nearly 2 minutes.

The buildings which were already damaged have fallen due to the aftershocks which are hitting the region. Many countries, including India are dispatching men and materials to the zone and there are fears that the death count may eventually cross 30,000 from the current 6000 official death figure. The videos circulating on the web are frightening.
