Pornographic websites should verify and ensure that the users in Louisiana are over 18 years old, failing which they may face the risk of being sued, according to a new law in the US state.

Republican state legislator Laurie Schlegel said that she felt the need to introduce the bill since she was inspired by musician Billie Eilish, who had come out with her experience of viewing porn as a child and the effect it had on her.

However, supporters of the US adult industry have contested this saying it is a wrong solution. Age checks are now a key part of the UK's Online Safety Bill. The app makes it mandatory to upload a driving licence or a state identity card that shows a person's age.
