There was no charge earlier and only strict verification procedures were there. However, Musk has introduced this payment option of 8 dollars per month for anyone to get their Twitter handle verified, with a blue tick.
Now both Instagram and Facebook, owned by Meta have reportedly decided to introduce the same. This was inadvertently leaked in the form of an engineer's code recently. Hence, soon FB and Insta users can expect a fee to get their profiles officially verified and certified, similar to Twitter.
