In a first, the tech giant Microsoft is all set to slash 10,000 jobs in what is being seen as the latest round of staff redundancies which is impacting the tech industry. This is expected to impact 5% of the giant's global workforce and expected to cost about $1.2bn involving severance and reorganisation costs.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has expressed that after customer spending has increased during Covid, more people are now planning to exercise caution, adding that they would continue to hire in a few key areas.
Satya Nadella also added that while the world is going into a possible recession or anticipating one, the next major wave of computing has started with stunning advances in AI. Microsoft is reportedly planning a multi-billion-dollar investment in the artificial intelligence company OpenAI, which has created the highly publicized
ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer).
